1. Camera doorbells with local storage
These record to a microSD card in the device or to a home hub on your network, so there is no cloud fee. You keep footage and full control of it. Most cloud-based camera doorbells still function without paying: you get a live view when the button is pressed and two-way audio. - Need footage you can review later? Look at local-storage cameras first.
- Only ever watch live? A free-tier cloud camera may be enough — but check what the free tier includes today.
- Cannot drill, wire or provide power? A QR and NFC sign is often the only option that fits.
- Want zero maintenance? A sign with no battery has nothing to fail.
- Main problem is missed deliveries rather than security? Visitor calling addresses that directly.
- Concerned about cameras in a shared entrance? A sign avoids the issue entirely.
