Simple multi-property visitor communication

One method that behaves the same at every door in the portfolio, with no wiring to specify, no batteries to replace and no monthly cost per property.

In short

For managed portfolios, DoorVi's appeal is what it does not create: no cabling, no powered hardware at the door, no firmware, no per-property subscription. Each sign is registered to the current occupier's phone, and re-registered when they change.

The problem

Visitor communication across a portfolio tends to be inconsistent. One block has a working entry panel, another has a panel with half the labels missing, and a converted house has nothing at all. Tenants fit their own camera doorbells, which creates a patchwork of devices, drilled door frames, and disputes about who is recording whom in a shared hallway.

Every powered device at a door is also a future job: a battery to charge, a fault to log, a contractor to send out. Multiply that by a portfolio and it becomes a standing maintenance line.

How DoorVi solves it

DoorVi standardises the visitor journey without standardising on hardware. Every door gets the same simple method — scan or tap, then video call the occupier — while the sign itself remains a passive object with nothing to fail.

Because there is no camera at the door, it also sidesteps the most common source of complaints in shared entrances, where a tenant-fitted camera overlooks a communal area or a neighbour's door.

How it works

  • Choose the sign type per door — adhesive-mounted signs for most entrances.
  • Register each sign to the occupier's phone number.
  • Visitors scan the QR code or tap the NFC sign to start a secure video call.
  • The occupier answers on their own phone and sees the visitor.
  • When the occupier changes, update the registration rather than the hardware.

Key benefits for managed portfolios

  • Consistent visitor experience across mixed building stock.
  • No electrical work, cabling or intercom specification.
  • No batteries, charging cycles or device firmware to manage.
  • No drilling for standard sign installation, protecting doors and frames.
  • No camera in communal areas, reducing resident privacy complaints.
  • No monthly subscription per property.
  • Fast to deploy — signs can be fitted during a routine visit.

Where it works well

Suitable portfolios

  • Blocks of flats with an ageing or unreliable entry panel.
  • Converted houses in multiple occupation with several front doors.
  • Build-to-rent and student accommodation with high turnover.
  • Mixed portfolios where no single wired system would fit every property.
  • Commercial units and small business parks with unstaffed doors.

Privacy

The sign contains no camera and no microphone. Nothing is recorded in a communal hallway, and no continuous monitoring takes place. When a visitor starts a call, video runs one way to the occupier, so the visitor never sees inside the property and never receives the occupier's number.

Installation and rollout

Standard signs are adhesive-mounted and take a couple of minutes each, so a rollout can be handled by existing staff on a normal round rather than by a contractor. There is no commissioning step, no network configuration and no power supply to arrange. Registration is done from a phone once per door.

Frequently asked questions

The sign is registered to a phone number, so when occupancy changes the registration is updated to the new occupier's number. The physical sign stays on the door.
